Canada Post refuses to implement Supreme Court order to provide pay equity to employees and retirees

A year ago this coming November 17, the Supreme Court ordered Canada Post to implement a Canadian Human Rights Tribunal Order that it provide pay equity payments to thousands of employees and retirees who had been underpaid for decades.

This should have ended a 30 year battle for equity and justice.

But Canada Post is refusing to implement that order and is delaying payments to those who desperately need it.

Ask your MP to write to Canada Post to get it to implement pay equity now.

For more than 30 years, employees and retirees of Canada Post have waited for justice on pay equity.  On November 17, 2011, the Supreme Court delivered that justice in a historic ruling from the bench, ordering Canada Post to pay thousands of affected workers the salaries they deserved.

But Canada Post is refusing to implement that order and is delaying payments to those who desperately need it.

Canada Post and the PSAC, the union representing the workers, have agreed on almost every aspect of the implementation, except for the calculation of the interest owed.

The PSAC proposed a fair and cost-effective solution that would see relief for the affected workers, but Canada Post refused.  The PSAC now has to take further legal action.

Many of the individuals who stand to receive pay equity have retired and are living on limited fixed incomes.  Some have not lived long enough to receive their payment.  Others are in poor health and could really use the money they are owed now.

Canada Post is obviously not interested in providing justice to the thousands of workers it has wronged over 30 years.

Please write to Canada Post CEO Deepak Chopra and insist that he implement the Supreme Court ruling without delay.
